Paul Cezanne was born on January 19, 1839 in France.  He came from a wealthy family which helped to support him throughout his career.  He is considered the "Father of Modern Painting".

Cezanne is one of the greatest Post Impressionist painters of all time.  He usually painted still lifes,

which are pictures of objects that do not move, like vases, fabrics, plates, and fruits.  He gave significance to everyday objects.

Cezanne used geometric as the basis of his drawings and paintings.  He believed that everything was made of a sphere, cone , or cylinder.  This way of drawing and painting helped to lay the foundation for Cubism, which was a style of painting that was based on shapes.  Cezanne's style was to use strong dark outlining lines to emphasize the shapes of the objects.

Paul Cezanne died on October 22, 1906 at the age of 67.
