Salvador Dali was born on May 11, 1904 in Spain.  In 1940 moved to the United States to live and to create his art.

Dali is a member of the Surrealist style of art.  As a Surrealist, he believed that the unexpected and unbelievable could happen within his paintings.  Dali often called his paintings "hand-painted dream

photographs."  His paintings show strange and weird combinations of objects and figures from melting clocks, broken apart figures, and odd looking animals.  He mixed photographs and collage with oil paints to create his pictures.

Salvador Dali used brilliant colors, realistic details and careful draftsmanship to create beautiful works of art that are known and loved throughout the world.  Dali died January 23, 1989.  He is the only artist in history to have 2 museums dedicated exclusively to his works erected during his lifetime.photo
