Paul Gauguin was born on June 7, 1848 in Paris.  He was a sailor and a stock broker, but quit to become a full time artist.

Gauguin is known for his use of unusual colors in his pictures of everyday things.  He would paint the sky yellow, grass orange, and mountains red.  Gauguin used bright colors to express his emotions and

feelings.

Later in his life, Gauguin moved to Tahiti where he lived for the rest of his life.  Tahiti's beauty inspired many of Gauguin's most beautiful and famous paintings.  He showed Tahitians going about their lives.  He was also able to capture the beauty of the land through his expressive use of colors.

Paul Gauguin died on May 8, 1903 at the age of 54.  He left a large treasure of art the has inspired a large number of artists today.
