Juan Gris was born on March 13, 1887 in Spain.  Gris was influenced by the work of Cubists Picasso and Braque.  He is known as a Cubist and his style closely resembles that of those two artists.

Gris is known for his still lifes with simple, everyday objects, portraits of friends and the occasional

landscapes or cityscapes.  Gris' paintings are done in the Cubist style.  His paintings are filled with flat blocks of color arranged in architectural compositions. He broke his paintings into blocks and shapes and filled them with colors that are grey and murky and at times bright and bold.  Gris liked to include sculpture and illustrations in his paintings.

Juan Gris died on May 11, 1927 at the age of 39.
