Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was born on November 24, 1864 in France.  He came from a very wealthy family.  When he was young, he broke his legs.  They did not grow properly so he had the body of a normal person, but his legs were very short.

Toulouse Lautrec captured Parisian life of the time in his paintings and posters.  He spent time at the circus, French cafes, carnivals, shows and animals.  He would make sketches and then paint pictures of the scenes the next

day in his studio.  When one looks at his work, you can learn about the clothing, the architecture, and the lives of the people who lived in Paris at the time.

Toulouse Lautrec is also known for his posters he created to advertise performances in cafes and theatres.  He would outline his figures and only partially color in the image to draw attention to a certain

aspect of the poster.  His most popular series of posters are the Moulin Rouge series.

Henri de Toulouse Lautrec died on September 9, 1901.  Today, his paintings and posters are in great demand.
