Georges Seurat was born on December 2, 1859.  He only had a brief career, but left a lasting impression on the history of art.

Seurat is known for his style of painting known as Pointillism, which is painting using small dots of color instead of regular brushstrokes of areas of solid color.  This process was very time

consuming.  Seurat only finished 7 large paintings in his career.  His most famous painting is A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte.  It is 7 feet by 10 feet big and took Seurat 2 years to make.

Seurat captured lively and beautiful colors, as well as, the effects of

the sunlight within his paintings.  His paintings are bright and beautiful moments in time.

Georges Seurat died on March 29, 1891 at the age of 31.  His work is greatly admired and respected today.
