VERTICAL LINES
Vertical lines stand up straight.
Vertical lines go up and down.

HORIZONTAL LINES
Horizontal lines lie down. 
Horizontal lines go from side to side or left to right or right to left.
Horizontal lines express feelings of quiet and calm.

DIAGONAL LINES
Diagonal lines tilt to one side.
Diagonal lines extend from the upper left to the lower right or the upper right to the lower left.
Diagonal line express action and motion.

 

ZIGZAG LINES
Zigzag lines are several straight lines
put together to create to appearance
of the line moving across the page.
 

WAVY LINES
Wavy lines are lines that create
movement.  They appear to look like
waves in the ocean as they flow
up and down across the page.

CURVED LINES
Curved lines are similar to wavy lines. 
They turn and bend and express
movement.

DOTTED LINES
Dotted lines are created by
putting several horizontal lines
together.  There is a small amount of space left between each of the
lines as the lines travel across the page

SPIRAL LINES
Spiral lines are bent lines that
appear to keep going around and
around. 
They give the illusion of depth and movement in a work of art.

BENT LINES
Bent lines are vertical, horizontal,
or diagonal lines that are slightly bent either up or down. 
Bent lines express movement and action.

ANGLED LINES
Angled lines are made by putting
two diagonal lines together.
They express action and movement
within works of art.

THICK LINES
Thick lines have a wide width.  They
can be any type of line (vertical or
horizontal or diagonal) just made
thicker to give it more weight.

THIN LINES
Thin lines are very skinny.  They
can be any type of line (vertical or
horizontal or diagonal) just made
very thin to make it appear very
light weight>
